The pacifier or thumb sucking is a form of comfort to an infant. If they are feeling loved and secured they may never need it. Hold them closely, but I don't condone picking them up all the time. It is healthy for them to cry also. it helps to develop the lungs. It all depends on the child. they know how to soothe themselves when needed.
