Well my guy friend asked me if i like him, I told me just as friends and now he's a jerk why?

Ok well he asked me a certain question I did not want to answer because I was afraid to hurt his feelings and I honestly did not know how I felt about him. He said though point blank..." I just want to know out of curiousity and do not like you at all that way." Anyway...I told him I was not going to answer because it would then be awkward and somethings might change like our friendship would die. So then later he kept saying things to make me feel bad and made me try to feel dumb. He bluntly said i was dumb. I asked why he was talking to me if I'm so dumb??? I asked it as a question and he said he did not have to answer. Then i was starting to regret our friendhsip, and then he said "because you did not answer my certain question." I knew what question he was talking about. it was like he was pressuring me to answer his question so I felt rly hurt from it. I told him I would answer his question if he answered mine. then he said he was just joking but he sounded rly serious. And he said he knew me to well to ever think i was dumb. I feel like im stuck in a game or something. Then i told him i I liked him as a friend. he then said, "alright." I'm starting to think that word was not a friendly one. So, then pretty much after that, he's always sarcastic, criticizes everything i say, won't even say hello or text first anymore. So what I want to know is did he lie to me and he did rly like me? because he was so nice, and would listen to me and would want to hang out but does not want to anymore. He's completely different. But he did not say he liked me, he wanted me to answer him though i could tell. Help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
