Post Apocalypse USA novel series from the 1980's about a biker and his dog, what's the title?

I read a few of these books when I was a kid from the local library, but I can't remember the title. The lead character travelled the country by motorcycle fighting outlaws along with his dog in search of his kidnapped sister. The story takes place after a nuclear war struck the USA with rogue generals leading various armies and post nuclear fallout.
